The Upper West Side is a family paradise. The historic Manhattan neighborhood sits book-ended to the east and west of Central Park and Riverside Parks. 2Michaels transformed a sprawling seven story brownstone on West 88th Street into a family home for a photographer, her husband, daughter and two pooches. Because the communal areas of the house are voluptuous and plentiful, furniture and art choices needed to skew extra large. Getting the aesthetic right was the task the required the most consideration. The husband and wife are very different but are able to agree on certain points. The husband has a yen for Shaker- style furniture, while the wife, who is a collector of outsider art, leans to the more startling and unusual aesthetically. The collaboration between the couple and 2Michaels resulted in a home that feels warm and cosy but also surprising.
